First Look At ‘As I Lay Dying’ on Film

Filming of James Franco’s version of William Faulkner’s “As I Lay Dying” wrapped up in Mississippi last weekend, and photos and news are starting to leak from the set. Yesterday, movies and gaming site We Got This Covered posted a “first look” at the filming with 19 photos from the set. Their post states that Franco and his team, which includes Ahna O’Reilly, who played Elizabeth Leefolt in “The Help” and Tim Parrack who plays Hoyt in “True Blood,” are utilizing their Mississippi filming locations beautifully.

Jackson’s Clarion Ledger reports that filming has occurred in Jackson, Carthage, Raymond, Learned, Canton and Puckett. O’Reilly told the paper: “I loved shooting in Mississippi. I think it would be impossible to tell the story anywhere else.”

The film, due out in 2013, is adapting Faulkner’s stream of consciousness tale of the death of Addie Bundren and her family’s journey to grant her dying wish and bury her in the town of Jefferson. The book has 15 narrators, and while it’s not clear if Franco has attempted to recreate that many voices on film, he does seem to be trying to stay true to Faulkner’s vision for the story.

    I am not sure about filming in Carthage. I do know that more than 40% of the movie was filmed at White
    Oak. This comnunity is located some five miles east of Puckett. They were able locate an turn of the century 1900 dogtrot house in Smith County. It nesstled beneath the Bienville National Forest along a ridge of hills called Heater Ridge. James Franco and company paid personal visit and fell in love with the old house. Not far from this location is where American Idol 2012 finalist Skylar Laine goes hunting. Her grandmother was raised at White Oak. Her great-great grand mother was born on the northern
    end of Heater Ridge. The movie was also filmed at Learned near Raymond and Canton. It is expected to be released in 2013.
