Sarah Horton
A senior English major at SUNY Geneseo, located in Western New York, Sarah hails from Florida -New York – that is. Though not born a Southerner, she has a deep love for the South that developed while attending the Youth Theological Initiative program at Emory University in 2007. A small taste of Southern culture (and Chick-fil-A) had her hooked. Sarah is pursuing a career in publishing and, fittingly, loves nothing more than a quiet night and a good book. This is her first internship, and she’ll be bringing an outsider’s perspective to Deep South while writing and blogging about culture, food and literature. Follow her on Twitter @sfhorton317, and read her blog on Tumblr.
Shermika Dunner

A native of Birmingham, she writes poetry, short stories, a blog and is working on a novel. Her “must do” goals are to become a respected, published writer, revisit Asia and see her name on the bestseller’s list. Shermika claims she doesn’t have a Southern accent, but Northerners beg to differ. At Deep South, she will be writing about travel, food, literature and history, as well as blogging and contributing to the “Southern Voice” section. Follow her on Twitter @shermikad.
