TCM's October Promo
Yesterday, The Givers band from our hometown of Lafayette tweeted that TCM featured their song “Saw You First” in its October movie promo. We went over to TCM’s site expecting a clip from the song. Instead, we were treated to the full-length version set to scenes from movies the channel is featuring this month. Gotta say, we’re pretty proud!
Headquartered in Atlanta, TCM, which stands for Turner Classic Movies, sets the standard when it comes to promoting and celebrating old films. The company’s pairing of a song by hip, new band The Givers with old movie clips is a sign that it knows its audience – and recognizes good music coming out of the South. After playing locally, once to a Lafayette Downtown Alive crowd that included Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds, The Givers have recently appeared on Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel.
We think their lyrics, “I saw you first, it was in a dream, it was in a dream,” go perfectly with images of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and Dracula in the promo. For scary movie fans, TCM kicked off a month of classic horror films on Monday with Stephen King talking about the films that inspired him most. This month’s programming includes films like “House of Wax,” “The Uninvited,” “Cat People,” “Dial M For Murder” and Edgar Allan Poe’s “Pit and the Pendulum.”
