3 Southerners Make Bon Appetit's Best New Restaurants List

We just opened up the September issue of Bon Appetit magazine to discover three Southern eateries in their “Hot 10 List” of best new restaurants. The 10 were compiled by Restaurant and Drinks Editor Andrew Knowlton, who was raised in Atlanta and often gives props to Southern food in the magazine.

Making the list are The Catbird Seat in Nashville, located atop cocktail lounge Patterson House and featuring a view of the kitchen from the dining counter. Knowlton calls the food here “inventive cooking with soul.” Oxheart in Houston, where vegetables steal the show, also made the list. Knowlton touts their $49, four-course menu as the best deal in town. Last up, but definitely not least delectable, is Cakes & Ale in Decatur, Georgia. Bon Appetit features full-page photos of the restaurant and bakery’s Old-Fashioned Blueberry Coffee Cake and Pineapple Upside-Down Cake, also talking up their cookies, layer cakes bake-sale favorites.
