Lecompte Pie Festival This Weekend

Most people driving from south to north Louisiana along Interstate 49 know to stop off at Lea’s Lunchroom in Lecompte (pronounced La-count) for pie. Since 1928, children have grown up stopping here with their parents and now take their own children and grandchildren. Whether your pie fancy is chocolate cream, coconut or lemon, Lea’s has it all by the whole and slice. There are also ham sandwiches and plate lunches, but what’s wrong with having pie for lunch and dessert too?

Lea’s has become so regionally famous that Lecompte is now known as the “Pie Capital of Louisiana.” And this Saturday is the time to be there during the annual Pie Festival. In its 13th year, the festival includes a parade, live music and arts and crafts in addition to lots of pie on the grounds of the old high school. The Pie Fest Queens will make their appearance at noon on Saturday, followed by the Pie Eating Contest at 1 p.m.

Lea’s Lunchroom is located off I-49 between Lafayette and Alexandria and will be open during the festival on Saturday from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Stop by for a slice and then sample a few more at the festival to find out if Lea’s really is the best slice in Louisiana.
