It's a Good Night at The Alluvian

It’s always a good time to book a room at The Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood, Mississippi, but specials leading into April make this a must-do getaway for spring. Packages this month include accommodations, spa treatments and cooking classes at The Viking Cooking School across the street. Thursdays in March offer a special rate and 20 percent off a spot in a cooking school class, or book a room March 22-24 for a Culinary Weekend with Chef Alon Shaya of New Orleans’ Domenica restaurant.

The Viking Half Marathon takes place March 30 in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and you’ll surely want to rest your head afterward. April brings more spa packages, special room rates April 1-4 if you book a spa appointment and a concert by the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra in the lobby lounge on April 21. The hotel also celebrates its tenth anniversary throughout the month of May by offering special room rates on Sundays.

We had the pleasure of spending the night at The Alluvian last summer and were ready to move in permanently. The marble-tiled bathrooms alone are worth the price, not to mention plush linens, turndown service, a wonderful art collection that mimics the surrounding landscape and charming downtown right outside the hotel doors. While filming in Greenwood, the cast of “The Help” stayed at the hotel and frequented the lobby’s weekly happy hour, adjoining restaurant Giardina’s (with private, curtained dining booths that feel like a step back in time), adjacent TurnRow Book Co. and other area restaurants like Delta Bistro and Lusco’s.

Treat yourself to at least one night at this Delta hotel that takes Southern hospitality to the extreme, but be forewarned, you’ll want to stay longer, especially after a Blues Bath or Deep South Cleanse at the spa.
