Participating in National Poetry Month

For the third year in a row, we’ll be posting a poem a day during National Poetry Month in April. Just check our Southern Voice section each day to read the poem. We’ll also be posting guest blogs from Southern poets, featuring poet laureates from the Southern states and recommending new chapbooks to read all month long.

To find poetry readings and events near you, check Poets.org’s calendar, which runs through April 30. The site also has a National Poetry Map, where you can find out about poet laureates, states’ poetic history, literary journals, read poems about certain states and more.

If you’d like to do more than just read a poem a day or attend an event, Poets.org has 30 ways to celebrate National Poetry Month, with suggestions like take a poem out to lunch or memorizing a poem.
