Belle Chevre's Cheese Shop Opens This Weekend
Belle Chevre creamery is opening its first-ever retail space in historic downtown Elkmont, Alabama, this weekend. Belle Chevre’s Cheese Shop and Tasting Room will hold its grand opening ceremonies on Saturday, April 13, beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. and other activities until 6 p.m. Belle’s Cheese Shop and Tasting Room is Huntsville’s only gourmet cheese shop, and in addition to selling Belle Chevre’s complete line of award-winning cheeses, shoppers will also find any imaginable companion for cheese, including artisan jams, cheese boards, utensils, Southern honey, crackers and more.
If stopping by on Saturday, the schedule includes a DIY Cheese Class Demonstration from 11-11:30 a.m. and another one from 4-4:30 p.m. and a “Tasia’s Table” booksigning with cheesemaker Tasia Malakasis from 1-2 p.m. There will also be opportunities for cheese tasting, winning free cheese and goodies, including a free gift to the first 50 attendees, a grand drawing, gifts for anyone who “checks-in” via Facebook or Yelp, and a Twitter contest that anyone can enter from now until April 13 by tweeting @BelleChevre and #belleinelkmont.
“After years of selling out of our tiny creamery’s office, it’s fabulous to have a beautiful, historic space to display our handmade Alabama cheese,” says Malakasis. Located at 18849 Upper Fort Hampton Road, the store’s official hours will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. on Sundays.
