South Carolina Festival of Flowers
Known for its topiary displays through Uptown Greenwood, South Carolina’s annual Festival of Flowers rivals that of Disney. In fact, the town’s topiaries are based on the “Safari” ones showcased at Epcot each year. This time of year, a stroll through downtown will include a 14-foot giraffe, a lion, an elephant and a monkey perched precariously over an open-mouthed alligator. There are 39 topiaries in all, with the 5-foot-tall custom safari vehicle and almost 6-foot Fuji Quick Snap Camera not to be missed.
The topiaries went up June 1, but the festival’s main weekend is June 20-23. Park Seed Flower Day, community vegetable garden tours and private home garden tours are available for both amateur and master gardeners. The weekend closes on Sunday with the Bee Buzzin’ Bike Tour, which travels through the scenic roads of Greenwood County. See the full schedule of events here.
