Celebrate National Ice Cream Sandwich Day

The only thing better than a bowl of ice cream is an ice cream sandwich, and today is the day to eat one. August 2 is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day, so there’s no better excuse to squash your favorite flavor between two delectable cookies. The Windsor Court in New Orleans has been celebrating since last month with its special Ice Cream Biscuit Sandwich. A buttermilk chocolate biscuit with Fernet ice cream and a bit of caramel for dipping is a reason to visit the hotel’s Polo Club Lounge. Pastry Chef Shun Li served as the assistant pastry chef at the Charleston Place Hotel and the executive pastry chef at Sienna Restaurant before joining the Windsor Court team in 2008. He admits his ice cream sandwich isn’t the sweetest around but says he wanted to give it a savory touch by combining buttermilk, sugar, flour and cocoa for the biscuit. “It’s an ode to the South and something you can eat with your hands,” he says.

You can find the Ice Cream Biscuit Sandwich on the Windsor Court’s dessert menu until the weather cools off. And if it’s during cocktail hour, we suggest pairing it with a French 75 or Jack Rose.
