Highest Ski Bar in the East Opens in North Carolina

Beech Mountain Resort in the North Carolina town by the same name officially opened its 46th ski season on November 29. Aided by a half-foot of new snow, the resort is also now home to the highest ski bar in the east. Named 5,506 for its elevation, the bar is a roundhouse of glass serving food and beverages, along with a spacious outdoor deck.

“The cool thing is that it’s a break for skiers and snowboarders to take a rest at the top of the mountain, enjoy the view, hang out with friends and get a completely different perspective on skiing in North Carolina,” says Ryan Costin, general manager of Beech Mountain.

The resort has also upgraded its snowmaking capabilities this year with the addition of a dozen new snow guns, along with continuous hours of operation. With an average annual snowfall of 84.6 inches, there’s no excuse not to ski, snowboard, ice skate, snowshoe or sled in North Carolina’s Coolest Town this year, located just three hours from Charlotte.
