The Decemberists and The Avett Brothers Jamming on an Ocean Voyage

Dallas, Texas-based folk band Fox & the Bird premiered its video for new single “Wreck of the Fallible” at the end of December. Described by American Songwriter as “The Decemberists and The Avett Brothers jamming on an ocean voyage,” the haunting song is filled with layered harmonies and orchestration hitched to banjos, accordions, ukuleles and fiddles. The song can be found on the band’s second album, Darkest Hours, out today.

According to the album’s press release, “while Darkest Hours is a heavy follow-up to the band’s debut Floating Feather, lyrically, their characteristic rich, up-beat orchestration carries us through the darkness with an innate sort of joy and hints at the light that inevitably follows even our darkest of hours.”

See Fox & the Bird on tour in February and March in Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas, and watch the video for “Wreck of the Fallible,” described by the director, who may have taken a nod from Wes Anderson, as a “character-driven concept that sought to portray these things through a child’s imagination.”
