After Mardi Gras
by Barry Dunlap
Pear trees lining
the street stand against
the February sky, reaching
arthritic fingers upward.
Desiring the heavens,
but clinging to three
trinkets of revelry –
green beads dangling
in the air like
the dreams of yesterday.
