Louder Than Life in Louisville
Inaugural rock music and camping fest set for October 4-5 in Kentucky’s Bourbon Country.
A weekend of live music from the likes of Kid Rock, Judas Priest and Stone Temple Pilots would be enough of a draw for some people, but add in a heavy focus on food and drink, and Louisville’s Louder Than Life festival becomes dubbed the “ultimate man food experience.” To be held at Champions Park on over 200 acres less than 3 miles from downtown, the festival will celebrate the region’s food, bourbon and craft beer industry, while honoring Louisville’s history as the birthplace of bourbon. The music is just lagniappe.
“I created the Louder Than Life festival to highlight and celebrate the ‘culinary capital of bourbon country,’ says Danny Wimmer of Danny Wimmer Presents. “And, of course, the cultures of rock and roll and bourbon go hand in hand.”
About the music, Wimmer adds, “Louisville is famous for a lot of things, but many people don’t know what a great rock town this is. When I first came to Louisville, I fell in love with this city, its diverse food, its bourbon and its culture.”
His all-encompassing festival will feature more than 70 vendors, along with celebrity chefs Chris Santos, Vic Vegas, Bill Kunz and Tom Coghill, who will showcase their wares while more than 30 bands rock three stages over two days and nights. Sip on bourbon from one of 14 of the state’s makers, from Bulleit to Knob Creek, enjoy a glass of craft beer from one of six local brewers, along with artist-inspired beverages like Iron Maiden’s Trooper Premium British Beer to a backdrop of music by Korn, Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach.
“Louisville has a great music scene, great food and is the birthplace of bourbon,” says Mike Maloney from the mayor’s office. “Some interesting facts about the Louisville region that people may not be aware of is that 95 percent of the world’s bourbon is produced in Kentucky, and Louisville has a vibrant craft beer scene as well.”
