Hannibal Lecter Cocktail
He was first introduced as a character in Tennessee-born Thomas Harris’ novel Red Dragon, but Dr. Hannibal Lecter became a household name in The Silence of the Lambs as the brilliant and scary cannibal psychiatrist who helps FBI agent Clarice Starling find a high-profile serial killer. For weeks after the release of The Silence of the Lambs‘ movie adaptation, the image of Anthony Hopkins as blood-drenched Hannibal Lecter haunted moviegoers’ nightmares.
And while two simple words—”Hello Clarice!”—were never actually spoken in the movie, they became an iconic quote often parodied in other films. In tribute to one of the most feared characters in literature, beverage director Mikey Kilbourne at One Eared Stag of Atlanta created an aromatic and visual work of art in what he describes as a cocktail that “starts with a sophisticated Chianti nose but transforms into something stronger right before your eyes.”
1 oz. Rye whiskey
.5 oz. lemon juice
.25 oz. simple syrup
1/2 oz. egg white
Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Pour shaken mixture into a rocks glass. Drizzle 1 oz. of Chianti over bar spoon, then serve.
