The Cheapest Way to Shade Your Patio From the Summer Sun

Outdoor spaces are magnificent and offer a pretty cool place to hang out with your friends or family. These spaces, however, can be intolerable when the scorching sun is on your back and you can’t enjoy your time outside. The Southern summer sun is especially brutal and has people staying indoors in the air conditioning, but it does not have to be that way.

You can actually shade your outdoor space in a cheap and easy way, making it the best place you want to be. With the many DIY ways of doing things, creating a shade for your patio has also become as easy. We have a number of affordable ways to create shade for your patio.

Sail Shade Canopy

If this is not the easiest and cheapest way to shade your patio, then we don’t know what is. It’s the kind of thing you do during your free time with little or no help at all. In fact, you’re likely not to spend a penny on this one.

All you need is a piece of fabric, which could be an old wrap-around or even a curtain, and some strings. You make holes at every corner of your piece of fabric and tie one end of the string to it. The other ends should be tied to a pole or any standing structure like the house or nearby trees.

This is usually a simple wood structure that you build above your patio to provide shade. The first step is to erect four poles at every corner of the space and then put a roof that’s supported by those poles on top of the patio.

This can be a lot more engaging, and you would need a bit of help from friends or family, but it is not something you cannot do on your own. A pergola is inexpensive, because all you need is wooden poles that you fix together to make a sturdy and beautiful cover over your patio.

Natural Shade

You do not have to spend anything to have a shade over your patio. You can be creative and end up providing cover from the hot sun by simply letting nature take its course. This is applicable if your outdoor space is covered in trees.

Trees with branches and huge leaves could provide very good shade and environment for your patio. All you need to do is set up your patio furniture below the tree and there you have it! The breeze from the trees is soothing, and that makes it very comfortable to relax there on a hot day.

String Along
Curtains are not only useful indoors. They can also be used to create a retractable roof over your outdoor space. You can use them as a roof and also provide privacy on your patio. That means using them both on top and at the sides of the patio.

How do you achieve this? What you need to do is thread wire into the grommet of the curtains all the way through. This has to be rigged to a pulley system that will give you easy control of the curtains when you want to draw them. You can use the curtains you already have, which makes it quite cheap to make.

Large Patio Umbrella

It is no longer expensive to have shade on your patio because of the inventory of large patio umbrellas that provide shade and are easy to operate. There are so many of them in the market that you do not have to spend a fortune to have one for your home.

They come in bright colors that do more than just shade your patio. They decorate it and make it look attractive with just a few bucks. Patio umbrellas are a very cheap way to get you and your family covered while chilling outside in the scorching sun.

Shade provision is a necessity in every homestead, especially in the South, but it is not always that you’ll have money to spend or be willing to spend it. That is why these simple ways of creating shade are available and do not cost you as much to put up in terms of labor or money.

Try out any one of them and see if it works for you. There must be one that will blend in perfectly with your outdoor space. Get on it and start enjoying that open and cool space you have in your back yard. This article was just meant for you.
