5 Destinations to Consider for Spring Break

With spring officially around the corner, thousands of people are planning their spring break. According to travel industry experts, over 50 percent of people between the ages of 18 and 34 plan a spring break vacation, and there are several other age demographics who do the same.

Spring break is an ideal time to escape cooler temperatures, snow and ice— and visit someplace where there’s plenty of sun and warmer temperatures. Check out some of these top spring break destinations.

New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is a popular pick for many travelers’ bucket lists and especially right as spring arrives. While New Orleans is an iconic place to visit during Mardi Gras, some prefer to go right after the big celebration when it’s a little less busy.

Whether you go for the nightlife, unique cuisine, endless opportunities to hear live music or to check out the historic neighborhoods, New Orleans is a great place to consider when planning your next road trip. If you’re planning a post-Mardi Gras trip, check out the BUKU Music + Art Project, the Irish Channel Parade or French Quarter Fest.

Lake Lanier Islands, Georgia

If you’re headed to Atlanta for spring break, you might want to take a break from the hustle and bustle and check out Lake Lanier Islands, which is only located 45-minutes out of Atlanta.

The area is best-known as home to Olympic water sporting events in 1996, but today this 1,500-acre spot is the perfect opportunity to relax or hike near Lake Lanier. If you’re craving some beach time, check out LanierWorld, now part of Margaritaville at Lanier Islands with water slides, an inland beach and marina.

Galveston Island, Texas

Many spring breakers flock to the beaches of Florida, but if you’re looking for some fun in the sand and sun without heading to The Sunshine State, Galveston Island is a great beach getaway.

Galveston Island spans 27 miles along the Gulf of Mexico with plenty of sandy coastline and community activities like art walks and live music. If you like amusement parks, check out Pleasure Pier or try out the zip line and ropes course at Sky Trail.

Austin, Texas

Another place to enjoy the warmer weather and celebrate the official start of spring break is the city that’s known for “keeping it weird.” If you’re looking for some fun on the water, check out the three-acre, municipal spring-fed pool at Hippy Hollow Park (if you’re at least 18 years old).

Whether you love craft beer or want to be up-to-date on the music scene, Austin is definitely worth checking off your travel bucket list.

Gulf Shores, Alabama

Spring break isn’t quite the same without spending a little time at the beach, but it can be difficult to find a beach that isn’t overcrowded. Experience the beauty and relaxation of the beach without the crowd in Gulf Shores.

This coastal city, on the Gulf of Mexico, sees a lot of tourists during the summer months, but the crowds are smaller during the spring break season. Check out the state park to ride a zipline or play a round of golf and, when you’re tired of lounging on the beach, visit the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo or the Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge.

Some Safety Travel Tips To Consider During Spring Break

Spring break is a much-needed getaway for college students and families alike, and whether you travel just a few hours away or take a cross-country trip, there are safety tips to consider. The personal injury lawyers at Hilda Sibrian remind us to take the necessary precautions to avoid a serious personal injury.

Whether you’re a pedestrian crossing a crosswalk while sightseeing or renting gear for a kayaking adventure, you should always be aware of your surroundings, eliminate distractions and know how to use equipment properly before engaging in a new activity.

Tourists may be at a higher risk of being injured while on vacation due to being in an unfamiliar place or partaking in activities that involve alcohol. Staying safe on spring break doesn’t mean that you need to sacrifice having a good time.
