Plan an Unforgettable Road Trip With Friends in North Carolina

From the beautiful scenery and incredible weather to the friendly Southern hospitality, it’s no wonder young people are flocking to North Carolina. However, you don’t have to uproot your entire life and move to North Carolina to experience it in all its glory. Instead, you can plan a road trip with your friends. North Carolina has everything from mountains to beaches, and you can go from one to the other in the span of a day. Whether you’re heading away for a few days or longer, here are some helpful tips for getting the most out of a road trip through the Tarheel State.

Get Out in Nature

North Carolina is known for its trails and hikes like Clingmans Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains, Crabtree Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway and Glen Burney Trail in Blowing Rock, not to mention the Appalachian Trail in the western part of the state. The nature lovers in your group are bound to enjoy the challenge.

If you’re worried about sore muscles or general aches and pains before and after embarking on a hike, look for some THCa flower for sale while in the state.

North Carolina also has whitewater rafting, camping, kayaking, rock climbing, fly fishing diving and so much more for outdoor enthusiasts.

Splurge On Accommodations

Camping is always a low-budget option in North Carolina, but you could also splurge on accommodations for a group of friends. Private villas or hotels with swimming pools, hot tubs and saunas can all be excellent options for a fun North Carolina getaway. You might even decide to splurge on a resort with a golf course and spa.

The Biltmore and Omni Grove Park Inn are two luxury accommodations in the Asheville area, while Winston Salem has the Historic Brookstown Inn and the award-winning Graylyn Estate. In the Outer Banks, book a charming beachouse or retro Tar Heel Motel in Nags Head.

Try Authentic Food

Be sure to work up an appetite on those hikes, because the food in North Carolina is inventive and fresh. Asheville’s dining scene is eclectic, with farm to table and ethnic restaurants side by side. In the Outer Banks, you’ll find fresh-caught seafood and homemade fudge, while breweries throughout the state serve up delicious food and brews.

You could also plan a whole trip around the state’s 200 wineries and vineyards, including the Swan Creek Wine Trail in the Yadkin Valley. See more of the state’s food trails here.

Be Tourists

It doesn’t matter where you plan to drive to in North Carolina; there’ll be no shortage of fun tourist activities to enjoy with your friends. Make the most of your road trip by visiting the most popular attractions.

For example, you might stop by the Wright Brothers National Memorial in the Outer Banks, Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington, Smithmore Castle in Spruce Pine or the North Carolina Pottery Center in Seagrove. Consider planning activities in advance to make it easier to get the most out of your days and hit attractions close by each other.

Release Your Inner Adrenaline Junkie

Road trips with friends are opportunities to try new things. Step outside your comfort zone and treat yourself and your friends to adventure activities. Go rafting or fishing on the Nantahala River, try ziplining through the forests or even book a ride on a hot air balloon to see the beauty of North Carolina from above. Make a point of trying new things you’ve never done before or never would have considered—and make your road trip unforgettable.
