Peninsula Pining
by Bri Campbell
I sit on my back porch,
downpour accompanied by tornado
warning I treat as a soundscape.
I yearn for rain that comes
at me sideways, that I know,
destined for the cove of my ear,
corner eyelashes, lovesick
for a swamp, knowing the cool
tumble of thunder is a precursor
to humidity, thicker and thicker.
Head in the headwaters, post-
meridian hail knocking
on sliding doors, clashing
sea air. June told me
chaos and consistency
are sisters, Spanish moss
hanging from stretched arms.
