With a little over two weeks to go until this year's Louisiana Book Festival — scheduled for October 31 in Baton Rouge — we thought we'd suggest some titles in preparation for the state's literary event of the season. With more than 200 authors attending, it can be daunting to decide who to see and what to read. This list is by no means comprehensive, but it does hit the highlights. You can also look forward to the bookstore tent on site at the festival, where you can purchase copies of books from all the authors attending, many of them signed. Driving the King: A Novel by Ravi Howard The Duck Thief and Other Stories by David Langlinais The Funeral Dress by Susan Gregg Gilmore The Gorge by David Armand Go Set A Watchman by Harper Lee -(This year's One Book, One Festival discussion group selection.) Imogene in New Orleans by Hunter Murphy In the Creole Twilight by Joshua Clegg Caffery The Marauders by Tom Cooper My Sunshine Away by M.O. Walsh A Peach of a Pair by Kim Boykin My Southern Journey by Rick Bragg Sarah Conley & Acts of God by Ellen Gilchrist (Don't miss this grand dame of Southern literature's debut appearance at the festival!) Jamie Kornegay and his wife opened TurnRow Books in Greenwood, Mississippi, in 2006. Since then, they've stocked the shelves with a continuous supply of Southern and Mississippi Delta literature, from fiction to cookbooks, memoirs and children's books. This month, Kornegay can add his own debut novel Soil to the collection. We interviewed him recently about the book, the writers who've influenced him and also asked him about the next wave of Mississippi writers whose books he'd excited to promote. Listed below, these writers all have connections to the state, whether being born there or having attended or taught at Ole Miss. Their books, including several signed copies, can be found at TurnRow and online here.
