Hurricane Cocktail Recipes

Y’all asked for a few cocktail recipes to go along with our hurricane reads, so here they are straight from our archives. Of course the official drink of hurricane season is the hurricane, but we understand that sometimes you gotta make do.

Traditional New Orleans Hurricane

2 oz. light rum
2 oz. dark rum
2 oz. passion fruit juice
1 oz. orange juice
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice
1 Tbsp. simple syrup
1 Tbsp. grenadine
Orange slice and cherry for garnish

Shake all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a hurricane glass filled with ice. Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.

Pink Watermelon Chardonnay Sparklers
from our Ode to Watermelon 

1/3 glass watermelon puree, chilled*
1/3 glass Chardonnay, chilled
1/3 glass sparkling water, chilled
1 watermelon ball

Combine ingredients in a wine glass and serve immediately. Serves 1.

*To make the watermelon puree, remove seeds from fresh watermelon and cut into large chunks. Place in a blender and process until smooth and well pureed.

Cranberry Apple Sparkler 
from Tristan restaurant in Charleston

2 cups Stoli Apple vodka
1 cup cranberry puree
1 cup apple juice
1/2 cup passion fruit nectar
1 bottle Prosecco

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl with plenty of ice. Garnish with cranberries and lime. Serves 8-10.

Perfect Pimm’s Cup
from Napoleon House in the New Orleans French Quarter

1 1/4 oz. Pimm’s No. 1
3 oz. lemonade
Splash of 7UP
Cucumber for garnish

Fill a tall 12-oz. glass with ice and add the Pimm’s and lemonade. Top off with 7UP and garnish with cucumber. To find out more about the origins of this drink, click here .
