Apartment Living

by Janell Oliver

The crazy lady in number Four
ladderclimbed onto the roof today.
Three stories up, she called the cops
from her cell phone and told them
her boyfriend was after her.
I, from number Two, had only
knocked for sugar,
but who does that these days?
The firemen raised a ladder
and sent women cops
with black guns and ponytails
in hot pursuit of the boyfriend.
Like me, they walked away with nothing
sweeter than the thought.

”But who does that these days?” What an imaginative and funny commentary on our rather disconnected, somewhat paranoid and over reactive society. Thank you for the afternoon giggle!

Oh boy…over-reactive society is correct. I can see this happening, & thanks for showing us…!
